I am Adam Guerin, an independent SEO and AEO consultant in Cairns. I work with small and medium businesses across Far North Queensland and regional Australia, I take one client per industry, and I do the work myself.
Do I still need SEO if AI is answering everything?
Yes. AI answers get assembled from pages that already rank, and from businesses whose details are consistent everywhere Google looks1. Getting cited in an AI answer is mostly the same work that got you ranking in the first place.
The measurement side has changed, and so has the amount of hype2. Most of the AI optimisation tactics being sold right now are ordinary SEO with a new label on it. A few things are genuinely new. Fewer than the pitch decks suggest3.
